The job of an orientador is to act as a 'psuedo parent' to a group of children. They basically stay with the kids and make sure that they get up, brush their teeth, go to school, eat meals and help kids out if they have any problems.
Below follows a description by one of our orientadoras about her daily tasks and responsibilities:
The work in orientation has many special moments. As orientadors we strive to create a normal family lifestyle for the children. We teach them daily routines, for example, waking up, getting ready for school, chores and helping with their studies. We supervise and teach good hygiene, nutrition and good health.
We believe in creating a family environment where the children can express themselves freely, whilst feeling protected and loved. We work with the children to teach them values such as respect, solidarity and responsibility for their actions.
